Energy Management

Responsible Sustainable Energy Management

  • Use Renewable Energy Resources for your energy needs.
  • If you are using Solar Energy you will need to store energy for use in the night or during cloudy periods.
  • Design your system so that you have excess energy available.
  • Energy can be converted to water by using dehumidification of the air.
  • Use electric vehicles for your short distance travelling in town.
  • Use Passive Heating and Cooling for living and working spaces.
Correct building orientation

Correct Building Orientation

  • On the south side of the building place large glass openings. In winter, when the sun is low, the energy will enter through the glass to heat your spaces.
  •  A parapet above the glass openings prevents the summer sun from entering the building (See next slide)
  • Insulate East and West walls and have small openings to avoid the summer sun from entering the building.
  • A solar wall can also be used to provide heating as well as cooling as shown below.

Winter: Louvers 3&4 closed, Louvers 1 & 2 open.   Summer: Louver 1 closed,  Louvers 2, 3 & 4 open.
